Cimate Change
Climate change in general is a very troubling thing, especially because we can take immediate action to help slow it down but we are barely taking any sufficient steps. Another extremely frustrating aspect is the fact that there are still politicians who deny that climate change is occurring. In my opinion, I do not actually believe that these politicians really do not believe the science, I think they have deals with companies in fields like the oil and coal business and do not want to lose money. To them it is easier to say it is not happening than it is to face the harsh reality of what is occurring and how we humans are responsible. Another troubling part is that companies are still not using renewable energy to it's full potential. We have the capability and technology to have a lesser impact but many companies are still not taking that step forward. We need not only political change but whole different way of doing things.
I think the aspect that needs the most attention is plastic usage. I was in Thailand a few months ago and I was BLOWN AWAY with how much plastic they are using. They quite literally will wrap each individual piece of fruit in plastic, it is extremely unnecessary how much plastic they use. However, it is not just Thailand who has the problem, the whole entire world has this problem. This is also a problem that can be easily fixed if people make just a few changes. I think if we can bring great attention to reducing plastic usage we might be able to make some change to the future of climate change.
Climate change is basically a change in the the statistical distribution of weather patterns that lasts for an extended period of time. These changes can have extreme adverse health effects because they cause things like rising temperatures, poorer air quality, more vector-borne diseases and extreme weather. Basically more people will be dying from heat waves, mosquitos, lung cancer and from hurricanes. With climate change happening the ecology of the world is changing, causing mass extinction in plant, animal and marine life. The water levels are also rising and people might lose their homes. Climate change will drastically effect life on earth.
Hi Caitlin,
ReplyDeleteI agree with your frustration over politicians and their not taking climate change seriously. I believe you are right when you state that they probably do believe in climate change, but only voice negatively against it due to money interests. What bothers me even more is that news media outlets (Fox and other right wing news organizations) report that opinion and people actually believe it. I just blows my mind to be honest. How can we not believe what literally every scientist in the world is saying?
Hi Caitlin,
ReplyDeleteThat's interesting you noticed that in Thailand. I think there is not enough awareness about the negative effects of it. Even at places like Trader Joe's, I see them wrap some of their veggies in plastic and Styrofoam. There probably also needs to be a bigger push for the use of alternative products. It's such huge problem that needs to be focused on since it affects the entire environment and everything living on it.
